You Keep Saying You Want to Travel. What Are You Waiting For?

We recently asked how many trips you had taken in 2026. Some of you said two or three. A few said five or more. But quite a few women told us something else:

None. If you have been wondering how to travel more in 2027, this may be the conversation you need before another year slips by. Now, life happens. Health, family responsibilities, finances and work can absolutely affect whether travel is possible. This is not about making anyone feel guilty for circumstances they cannot control. But if you could have traveled and simply never made it happen, Auntie, we need to talk about that.

How Long Has “One Day” Been the Plan?

A lot of us have places we have been talking about for years. “I want to go to Greece.” “I would love to see Africa.” “I’m definitely going to Italy.” “I want to take a cruise.” But somehow the trip keeps getting pushed to one day. The problem is that “one day” sounds like a plan when it really is not. There is no date, no deposit, no travel fund and no real decision attached to it. And before you know it, another year has passed. If travel matters to you, at some point it has to move from the wish list to the calendar.

Stop Waiting for Everybody Else

This one keeps a lot of women home. Your friend wants to go, but she is not ready. Your sister needs to check her schedule. Your cousin says, “Maybe next year.” And your girlfriend has been saying, “We should take a trip” for the last three summers. Meanwhile, you are still waiting. There is nothing wrong with wanting to travel with people you love. But if they never get ready, are you willing to keep missing the experience too? That is one reason group travel works so well for women who want companionship without having to organize an entire vacation around somebody else’s schedule. Sometimes you do not have to bring your travel group with you. Sometimes you meet your travel group when you get there.

Make Travel Part of the Plan

Yes, travel costs money. But there is a difference between not being able to afford a trip right now and never actually planning financially for one. If travel is important to you, give it a place in the budget instead of hoping there will be enough money left over later. Pick the trip. Look at how much time you have before departure. Then figure out what you can realistically set aside each month. Learning how to travel more in 2027 does not mean filling your calendar with vacations. It means deciding that travel matters enough to plan for it before the year gets away from you again. And do not forget the practical things: check your passport, look at your vacation time, choose a realistic travel window and start preparing before the trip feels urgent.

What Kind of Trip Would Actually Excite You?

Maybe part of the problem is that you have not found the trip that makes you say, “Okay, I need to do this.” So instead of asking, “Where should I go?” ask yourself: What do I want my next trip to give me? Do you want rest? Culture? History? Beautiful scenery? Great food? Black heritage and connection? Luxury? Adventure? Fun? Maybe you want a beach where you can completely exhale. Maybe you want Europe. Maybe you want Africa. Maybe you want to unpack once on a cruise and let the ship take you somewhere new. You do not need to travel just because everybody else is going somewhere. You need a trip that excites you.

Pick One Trip

You do not need five vacations in 2027. You do not need a giant bucket list. Start with one. One destination you would be disappointed to watch another year pass without seeing. One experience that makes you smile when you think about it. Then start making it real. Check the passport. Pick the season. Start the travel fund. Look at your calendar. Research the destination. And decide whether you are willing to go without waiting for everybody else to be ready. Start now, even if the actual trip is months away. A few small decisions today can be the reason you are packing a suitcase next year instead of saying, “Maybe next year.” There is a big difference between saying: “I want to go.” and saying: “I’m going.” If 2026 passed without a vacation and you are able to travel, maybe 2027 is the year you stop talking about the trip and finally put one on the calendar. Because at some point, “one day” needs a date.
